So Dema, tell us a bit about yourself and Vibease.
I’m the co-founder of Vibease smart vibrator. I used to do hands-on technical stuff such as designing PCB and develop Vibease apps.
Raise awareness about the importance of sexual wellness
Now I’m focusing on product innovation, customer satisfaction and raise awareness about the importance of sexual wellness.
Vibease is the world’s first smart vibrator. The first vibrator that can be controlled via smartphones. Vibease vibrator also syncs with audio erotica, the vibration intensity follow the intensity of the storyline. Vibease erotica marketplace has close to 1000 erotica.
What motivated you to set up Vibease?
Vibease was born out of a sexy fun project when I was in a long-distance relationship. I was working in a hedge fund company in Boston and my girlfriend back then was in Singapore. In 2010, there was no product that could help long-distance couples to have physical intimacy.
The lack of physical intimacy is one of the top reasons why a couple breaks up. So I thought of creating a remote control vibrator that can be controlled with a smartphone via the internet. It worked great. But I never thought of quitting my job to sell smart sex toys.

My motivation came when I met a sexologist and she told me more than 50% of women didn’t attain orgasm even when they are having sex. I thought with Vibease I can help and raise awareness about the importance of female orgasm.

What does the future look like for Vibease?
As there are more and more smart products entering the market to improve people life, including smart sex toys. Vibease wants to be the platform for all smart sex toys and partnering with many other brands.
Emotion is one of the key factors to female orgasm, Vibease focuses on adding emotions into sex toys to create the next level of pleasure experience. Vibease wants to imitate the real as close as possible.
For example, with the Vibease platform, all smart sex toys are able to sync with erotica to enhance the whole pleasure experience. It helps the users to get into the mood, especially after a long busy day. In the future, all sex toys will become smart sex toys. It’s not just stimulating physically, but also stimulating the mind. After all, our brain is the biggest sex organ.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learnt since starting Vibease?
There is always a solution for every problem when failure is not an option. Building a startup is hard.

By creating a hardware product for the sex industry, we just made it ten times harder. Despite all the challenges, we always found a solution to the problems we had because it was our own company. If we could not solve it, it will be the end of the company.
The proudest moment was when we were able to manufacture and ship our first 1000 Vibease vibrators to the customers. We never thought it was possible to create a physical product from an idea and eventually sit on the shelf.
Because when we started, it was only me, my wife and my co-founder, Steven. Neither of us study electrical engineering nor worked in a consumer electronics company before.
The key was we got many of our early adopters to tell us how Vibease solved their long-distance intimacy issues. Knowing that we are building a product that people want to use keep pushing us to achieve our goal.
If you were able to create ANY solution what would it be?
We are developing AI partner “Him”, similar to the one in “Her” movie. But better, because it can give physical touch.
