The Case for Her Welcomes New Managing Director

Shannon Lovgren

The Case for Her, a philanthropic investment portfolio addressing the key women’s health issues of menstruation and sexual health and pleasure, announced that Shannon Lovgren will join as Managing Director effective April 1, 2021. Lovgren succeeds Gerda Larsson, who was with The Case for Her since its foundation in 2017 and has now moved on to other opportunities.

We are sad to see Gerda go, but excited for this opportunity to bring in new ideas and expand the already incredible work our team is doing,” says Wendy Anderson, Co-founder of The Case for Her.

Shannon has a Master’s of Medical Science in Global Health from Karolinska Institutet and has spent the last seven years working with the Swedish International Centre for Local Democracy (ICLD) as Zimbabwe Director. At the ICLD, she was responsible for the training of over 250 senior officials and politicians in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) resulting in more than 150 projects working towards achieving SDG targets in Africa. According to Cristina Ljungberg, Co-founder of The Case for Her:

Shannon is exactly the kind of purpose-driven candidate that we were looking for. She is a natural leader with a genuine belief in The Case for Her’s agenda of putting key women’s health issues on the global health agenda.

Shannon will act as the formal head of The Case for Her, working closely with the founders to drive their mission forward. Her responsibilities will include evaluating and discovering new investment opportunities, facilitating and deepening global networks, and managing the day-to-day operations and administration of the organization.

I am excited to learn more about the philanthropic universe and transition from development and donor aid to impact investing. All of the key areas of development go through sexual health and reproductive rights. If you take care of that, you’re five steps ahead of the game to address issues of poverty, inequality, and oppression,” said Shannon Lovgren.

The Case for Her is a risk-tolerant and fast-moving team that began investing in menstrual health as a strategic stepping stone towards its larger goals of advancing gender equality. Today, The Case for Her has a global portfolio that includes investments and grants in companies like Clue, Unbound, The Pleasure Project, Sustain, and Acumen
