Women in England are demanding free menopause treatment for all women!
Hormone Replacement Therapy is a treatment to relieve symptoms of menopause. It replaces hormones that are at a lower level as a person approaches menopause.
The NHS in England currently charges a prescription fee of £9.35 ($17) per item. Whereas in In Scotland and Wales, NHS prescriptions for HRT are free.
The Ginsburg Women’s Health Board has launched the #Free-HRT campaign which calls for HRT fees to be removed.
The organisation’s co-founder Nimco Ali asserts that women who require HRT should not be financially penalised and has said:
The menopause is a reality for women and not a choice
“The menopause is a reality for women and not a choice. It is medical misogyny to exclude HRT from prescriptions that are free.”
The campaign is backed by a number of prominent leaders in the UK including MP Carolyn Harris who has said:
This is not political, this is about women’s health- first and last.
“We need the Government to understand how important this Bill is. This is not political, this is about women’s health- first and last.”
